So today I was on my way to Trinacria (this great hundred year old italian deli, located on paca st., they make this wonderful asiago cheese bread and olive bread and deli meats are super cheap.) and I passed by the Central Branch of the Enoch Pratt Public Library (where my mother worked for 35 years...hi mom) and It's this great kind of old like Justice League of America building, the kind of place from the outside one would assume has hallowed halls.
Well, there are these grand display windows that you pass by as you walk down the block and they contain various little teasers to get you into the library and they highlight lectures, and events in the library and so forth. Around christmas they get local architecture firms to create holiday themed displays out of legos and they adorn the street its quite ...tantalizing at times. SOO anyway, I was walking by this window and it said [Baltimore] Proud Past! Bright Future! and it was you know, a pump for some book or something...but standing or rather slouching, about to fall over in front of this window was this woman who was so nodded out from heroin I guess, that her knees kind of half buckled and the items she was a carrying - a salad in a to-go container and a bottle of water just dropped to the ground and spilled out all over the street, she was barely even noticed the wind carrying away her sad little iceberg lettuce strips.......yup, proud past, bright future. mike lowry
